Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, a city that blends history, culture and spectacular scenery. It’s famous for its castle, summer festival and the medieval charm of its old town.
The city centre is dominated by Edinburgh Castle, home to the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs.
Our school, The Edinburgh Academy, is located right in the heart of the city, where the sound of bagpipes accompanies your Study Holiday in a magical setting of castles, stately districts and winding old streets.
Population: 449,000
Distance from London: 650 km
Location: Scotland

Accommodation is provided at Pollock Hall Residence, located about 30 minutes from the school by public transport, in single rooms with shared bathroom.
Full-board treatment includes breakfast and dinner at the John McIntire Conference Centre on site, and lunch at school. On Saturdays and Sundays, a packed lunch is provided.
The course includes 15 hours of English lessons per week, held in the morning.
For those who want a more intensive experience, there’s the option to join the Intensive Course (with an additional fee). This includes 20 extra lessons instead of recreational activities. A minimum of 10 participants is required.
All teachers are native speakers, qualified to teach English as a foreign language. Students are placed in classes according to the results of a placement test taken on arrival, ensuring that each student joins the most suitable level.
Study materials are provided by the school, as well as a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.
Two full-day excursions are included. Examples include:
Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, known for its lively cultural scene, Victorian and modern architecture, and warm hospitality. Once an industrial hub, today it’s renowned for its museums, music, prestigious universities, and its blend of history and innovation.
St Andrews, a historic coastal town famous as the birthplace of golf and home to one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world, with stunning medieval ruins and sea views.
Stirling & Loch Lomond, two of Scotland’s most famous locations. Stirling is steeped in history, famous for its impressive castle and key battles, while Loch Lomond is one of the country’s largest and most beautiful lakes, located in the Trossachs National Park.
There are also ten half-day city outings, which may include:
A guided tour of the Old Town to uncover the history and secrets of Scotland’s capital.
A hike up Arthur’s Seat, the city’s highest hill.
A visit to Edinburgh Castle, celebrating its 900th anniversary.
A stroll through Dean Village and the Gallery of Modern Art, following the Water of Leith.
A trip to the National Museum of Scotland to explore the nation’s history and global influence.
A visit to the Royal Botanic Garden or Dynamic Earth, an interactive science centre exploring the story of our planet.
You’ll also enjoy one evening outing, with a post-dinner walk through Edinburgh’s dark streets to hear eerie tales and local legends.
Excursions may be subject to minor changes before departure. The final programme will be given to group leaders upon arrival.
Every evening at the residence, the school staff organises fun social events such as Movie Night, two Scottish-themed dance evenings, board games, karaoke, arts & crafts, sports and much more!
