Known as the Big Apple, New York City attracts millions of tourists and international students every year, eager to experience everything this iconic city has to offer.
There are endless possibilities and attractions to explore, and just walking around the city will make you feel like you’ve stepped off the plane straight into one of your favourite movies. The towering skyscrapers, world-renowned museums, Broadway shows, shops, Central Park, Fifth Avenue, Soho, Ground Zero, Tribeca, the High Line, and the Empire State Building—to name just a few!
Our school, Barnard College at Columbia University, is a private liberal arts college. Annie Nathan Meyer founded the college in 1889, in direct response to Columbia University’s refusal to admit women. Named after the tenth president of Columbia, Frederick Barnard, the college is located in Manhattan and is well-connected to the city centre by public transport.
The accommodation consists of small apartments with 2 double rooms, 2 single rooms, and 1 bathroom, located within the campus.
Full board is provided at the campus cafeteria, except for the several dinners in the city (meal vouchers will be provided) and packed lunches during the full-day trips included in the program.
To learn English, 15 hours of lessons per week are provided in the General Course.
All teachers are certified to teach English to foreign students and organize classes based on the results of an initial test, which is used to determine each student’s language level and place them in the most suitable class.
Study materials are provided by the school, as is the certificate of attendance, which is issued at the end of the course.
Trips & Activities
Two half-days and three evenings will be spent on campus, with dinner in the cafeteria and activities organized by the Activity Leaders, such as Ice-Breaker Activities, Disco, and International Night!
Trips may be subject to slight changes before departure. The final program will be provided to group leaders upon arrival.
